-Executive Function Skills-

“The brain based skills required for humans to effectively execute or perform tasks and solve problems. They include decision making, planning and management of information, and they help kids get done what needs to get done.”

Guare, Dawson, C. Guare, Smart but Scattered Teens

Hi I’m Hayley, Welcome to Launch Strong. I’m so glad you’re here!

I’m a teacher, parent, coach, consultant and advocate of the needs of ADHD students, Boarding Students and Students transitioning to Boarding School and High School, in Western Australia.

What is Executive Function Coaching?

Practical, strengths-based support that helps young people understand how their brain works — and build the specific skills they need to manage themselves independently both in school and in life.

It's not tutoring. It's not therapy. It's coaching — which means focusing on what your child CAN do, build on what's already working, and develop real strategies for the areas that aren't. We listen, encourage and support.

Every coaching session in person or live online, and tailored entirely to your child's goals, challenges, and stage of life.

Who can potentially benefit from Executive Function Coaching?

✓  Students with ADHD

✓  Students preparing for a transition to Boarding School

✓  Academically capable students who aren't reaching their potential

✓  Students who struggle with organisation, time management, or emotional regulation

✓  Students who have tried other support that hasn't quite clicked

✓  Students who are ready to take an active role in understanding themselves better

Skills We All Need To Succeed, to name a few!

Time Management

Understanding how long things actually take, planning realistically, and building routines that don't fall apart under pressure.

Organisation

Creating systems for physical spaces, school bags, lockers, and paperwork — so nothing important gets lost and everything has a home.

Task initiation

Getting started on tasks — even the ones that feel overwhelming, boring, or too big to know where to begin.

Emotional regulation

Understanding the brain's stress response and building a toolkit for managing big feelings before they take over.

Study skills

Learning how memory actually works, how to study effectively (not just do homework), and how to prepare for assessments with confidence.

Self-awareness

Developing metacognition — the ability to think about their own thinking — so your child becomes their own best advocate.

A wooden desk with a white mushroom-shaped table lamp, a glass vase with a purple flower, a closed laptop, a stack of white books, a notebook with a wooden pen, and a white bowl, with a beige wall in the background.

Each session is 45-50 minutes long and is relaxed, conversational, and focused entirely on your child. There's no test, no worksheet to dread, and no lecture.

Sessions aim to build an awareness in the child or teen of their strengths and weaknesses and are taught strategies to support areas of need.

Parents receive a brief update after each session so you stay informed of our goals.

My love of wide open spaces was developed early as I grew up on a farm on the south coast of Western Australia.

I attended boarding school as a teenager and I have found myself navigating farming in the eastern wheatbelt. I'm a teacher by trade and I have children of my own in boarding school.

When my children started high school and boarding school, I noticed that skills that had been manageable at home — keeping track of things, starting tasks, managing their emotions, organising their time — became much harder when I wasn't there to help. The scaffolding I'd been providing without realising was suddenly gone. Sadly this skills gap often results with students in trouble; for not being on time, for forgetting commitments, for incomplete homework, the list goes on.

Knowing I couldn’t change the system to suit my children, I started asking:

“What are the actual skills they need to address these issues to keep them out of trouble and feeling good about themselves?” Not just to pass their exams, but to manage themselves calmly as a person living independently for the first time and to meet the expectations set for them by their school?

These questions sent me deep into the research on executive functioning — the brain skills that underpin everything from time management to emotional regulation — and it changed how I think about supporting young people entirely. I haven't stopped learning since and this interest has now turned in to a passion to help young people who truely struggle with skills, find the support they need to learn and develop them.

Why Launch Strong?

I created Launch Strong because my children had skill deficits that were impacting their learning and well-being that weren’t, and still aren’t, being taught in schools. When I saw the benefit the coaching had on them, the skills and education gap for others became obvious to me.

The course and the coaching I offer are modelled on the best available research in executive functioning, brain science, and adolescent development. But they're also built on something no textbook can give you — years of watching students navigate the transition to high school and the boarding experience, and beginning to understand how to actually help.

 My Approach

I work as an executive functioning consultant and coach — which means I bring both the specific strategies of a consultant and the practical, relationship-based support of a coach to every family I work with. What I do believe in is meeting young people where they are — with honesty, warmth, and a genuine curiosity about how their particular brain works. Together we build the self-awareness and practical skills that make independence feel achievable rather than overwhelming.

Every brain is different. Every student is unique. Certainly, no brain is best.
